Danny helped me build Emotional Intelligence skills.
Danny helped me build Emotional Intelligence skills. I didn't know what to do after the first step of "recognizing ones feelings." His story showed me how to work with my feelings as a process. I found the book to be very appealing and most useful.

DNA Disaster (Tom Swift, No 4)
Published in Paperback by Simon Pulse (August, 1991)
Authors: Victor, II Appleton and Anne Greenberg
Average review score:

I basically think that it is a great science fiction story.
The book was stunning and held me fast, and on the edge of my seat. It was an amazing story. I especially liked it when Rick got turned into the ape man. There was one thing that confused me: when the futuristic mynah bird escaped, and just flew away-- and that was the end of him. Otherwise, I would recommend this book to all science fiction-freaks. It spun an intricate tale around me, and I was captivated completely. I just love the Tom Swift series, and think that Victor Appleton is a WONDERFUL author. The book was one to always be remembered

The Experience of Landscape
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (01 April, 1996)
Author: Jay Appleton
Average review score:

Interesting application of Dewey's Aesthetics
In the first two chapters Appleton outlines a European history of ideas about aesthetics to answer the question: What is it that we like about landscape and why to do we like it? He then uses John Dewey's Art as Experience (1938) to develop analytical tools to use to propose and investigate hypotheses about why we like particular landscapes.

The approach might be useful in other areas such as architecture when the reason for asking the initial question is for the purpose of producing or locating a work of art.

A Free Range Childhood : Self-Regulation at Summerhill School
Published in Paperback by Foundation for Educational Renewal (August, 2000)
Author: Matthew Appleton
Average review score:

A fresh look at the issues of childhood
This is a thoughtful and well-written description of life at
the famous Summerhill school in England, as seen by someone
who worked as a houseparent there for nine years. However,
it is much more than an account of what life in "the happiest
school in the world" is like - Appleton grapples with many of
the issues that the concept of giving children freedom and
respect raises. The section on children and sexually is particularly courageous in view of the culture of denial that we live in with regard to this issue. I found his attempts to reconcile the experience of Summerhill with his own upbringing, in a normal comprehensive school in England, to be particularly relevent and pertinent. Appleton does a great job of expanding many of the themes that A.S. Neill first began to explore in his books, and as such this book is a very welcome addition to my fast-growing library of books on free/alternative education. Heartily recommended, thought-provoking reading.

The Human Phenomenon
Published in Hardcover by Sussex Academic Pr (September, 1999)
Authors: Pierre Teilhard De Chardin and Sarah Appleton-Weber
Average review score:

A new translation of The Phenomenon of Man
"You hold The Human Phenomenon" in your hands and one way to understand this is to point to your human agency in grabbing the book. But it is just as true to say that you hold this book because the universe has labored for billions of years to reach a point in its complexification where it can now bring forth something new through you. It comes to you with its own ideas for your future, for what is needed now for the universe's unfolding story is not a new galaxy or a new star. What is needed now is a new form of human being. -- From the Foreword by Brian Swimme, author of The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos

This work by the priest, paleontologist and geologist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin is his book of the Earth, a discovery and an epic journey to open the way out for humanity in a time of world conflict and release the spirit of the Earth. Teilhard guides the reader back in space-time to experience the birth of our planet as it emprisons the human future in its globe and motion, then forward, through the emergence of life, the birth of thought and socialization, and the unique mode of human unfolding as humanity covers the whole planet in an entirely new membrane, the Noosphere. Through a close study of Teilhard's essays, letters, notebooks and retreat notes, his autobiography and key biographical and interpretive studies, poet and scholar Sarah Appleton-Weber aims to represent Teilhard's thought accurately in this translation which is based on a careful comparison of four versions of the French text.

Highly Insightful
I thought this one of the top 3 books I have ever read on the semiconductor industry. For once, it was very interesting to hear what the actual leaders in industry felt. I would highly recommend this title to both experts and novices in the semiconductor industry-or anyone interested in semiconductors in general....

Insight Guide Kenya
The book has everything you need to know. This book had every hotel, lodge or tented camp we stayed at and the information was accurate. It also list places to eat, shop, and sites to see in each area. The book gives you a history of the country, profiles on the different tribes, details about each park and reserve, maps and travel tips that were very good. Really liked the information on the wildlife since this was the main reason for our trip. My 10 old daughter also enjoyed reading this book.

Meg and Jim's Sled Trip
Published in Paperback by Flyleaf Publishing (01 January, 1999)
Authors: Laura Appleton Smith, Carol Vredenburgh Piontek, and Laura Appleton-Smith
Average review score:

Outstanding Childrens Book
I understood that this book is one of a series that can help teach children to read more effectively. However, my daughter and I both thought that is was simply fun to go through over and over, just on its own merits. The illustrations were great and can't help remind the adult reader of their own childhood as well. I am buying 10 more just for gifts for friends with toddlers who want to get a leg up in reading skills.
